What they don't tell you

The mobile app cannot cancel an App Store purchase — most Duolingo subscriptions are Apple-billed. Check Settings → Subscriptions first.
Your streak and progress survive cancellation.

If you subscribed through Apple

Duolingo Super cannot cancel a subscription that Apple bills. On your iPhone open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, choose Duolingo Super, then Cancel Subscription. Check your receipt: if it came from Apple, that is your route.
