Short answer: go to www.amazon.com/gp/primecentral, sign in, and follow the steps below.

Step by step

Go to Account & Lists → Prime Membership
Choose 'Manage membership' → 'End membership'
Click through three separate 'are you sure' screens to the final confirmation

What they don't tell you

Amazon shows your remaining benefits and a partial-refund offer on each screen. You are not cancelled until the last one.
If you have used Prime shipping this billing period, a refund may be prorated or refused.

Before you cancel — the cheaper option

Amazon may offer to pause the membership instead. A pause still ends the charge but keeps your renewal date.
